Open Thread Tuesday

Welcome to Jestertunes! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Feel free to leave a comment, read through the archives, and enjoy yourself. See you again real soon!

It has been a busy past couple of days around here, and not having my laptop puts a cramp in my daily schedule.

In other words, I don’t have anything prepared for today. I am showing up for the pop quiz without a pencil and having no idea what chapter we were supposed to have read. I may not even have the book yet. I’ll likely buy it used from some clown who dropped this class because it was too “late in the day.”

Whatever.

Any hoo… I’m going to turn today’s thread over to you all.

What would you like to talk about?

Are there any questions you have always wanted to ask me, or one of the commenters here?

Are there any stories I’ve written or posts I’ve made that you feel need some clarifications or expansion?

Post here in the comments and I’ll do my best….

Also, feel free to totally ream me a new one for not having my shit together today. Who knows, I might like it.

That’s a tall order. I think I’ll just ream you for not having a post today and being a lazy fucker. At least you could have at least written a limerick, like I did.

Avitable - That sounded like a challenge:

There once was a man named Paul
Who saw, but forgot, it all.
He said with a sneer,
“If I poke in your rear,
Don’t be too upset if I don’t call.”

Ta Da!

There was a guy named Jester,
Who knew someone with a hot sister,
“Guys, I know I’m gay”
He said, “But let’s say,
if I was straight, I’d totally molest ‘er.”

Once upon a time lived Avitable
Whose home was quite uninhabitable
Fumes would make visitors nauseous
His demeanor? Obnoxious.
and Britt would have to clean it all.

–admittedly not my best work, but shit, it’s hard to rhyme with “avitable.”

It’s not that hard.

There was a strapping young bloke named Avitable.
His upcoming fame and fortune were inevitable.
His first name was Adam
His moustache rivaled Saddam
But if you mention it, he’ll become quite irritable.

oh fuck no. i’m not writing a limerick. i will, however, take this opportunity to ask about the job situation. any luck?

hellohahanarf wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 3:20 pm

hello - I can’t really talk about the job situation quite yet. Let’s put it this way: I have not started, or been “officially” offered a position yet, but I’m no longer beating my head up against the wall sending out resumes and scheduling interviews. Is that vague enough?

jester wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 3:27 pm

Avitable - Nice. But who are you talking about?

jester wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 3:28 pm

i’m sending all kinds of positive money vibes your way. thanks for the update. sort of update. you know what i mean.

hellohahanarf wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 3:46 pm

This guy I know.

how about you tell me what tat you think killer recently had inked…

There is no thread;
but I’m not dead.
With no thread, there is no needle
so will not even try to wheedle
money from those who have no bread.

Well !! What did you expect? LOL :)

there once was a lady named nancy
who ate only foods that were fancy
but the neighbors all said
she’d lost her head
when she mistakenly ate her cat, clancy

sorry, that’s all that comes to mind for limericks

but….

speaking of tats, does anyone here have any? any advice about getting my first one?

heather wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 9:23 pm

oh, and how do i get a picture next to my name instead of the jester dude?

heather wrote on August 21st, 2007 at 9:24 pm

ok…drinking while on vacation has led to a bet that i simply cannot bare (bear?) to lose so i was wondering if you or any readers know about the air we breathe. for example, if you are in the hospital and get hooked up to oxygen, is it o or o2?

while you are at it…is it bear or bare? shitfuck, i can’t type in this condition. someone answer. and quick!

hello - Thanks for the positive vibes!

Avitable - Uh huh… a cousin of a friend of your sister’s boss, right?

hello - I hope he had a Garbage Pail Kid tattooed on his scrotum. That would be awesome.

Crail - I’ll have what you’re having.

heather - I have three tattoos myself. one on each arm, and another on my right ankle. My recommendation is to spend a lot of time thinking about the design, and thinking about the artist that you want to actually tattoo you. It’s not enough to fret about just one of those elements. I know who I want to do my next tattoo. His name is C.W. Eldridge and he is the curator of the Tattoo Museum. He’s been featured on the Discovery Channel and is known as one of the best artists in the Western US. He was a customer of mine at the cafe.

You can get a picture next to your name by visiting http://www.gravatar.com and signing up. :)
hello - When you are in the hospital you are put on O2. Oxygen (as I recall from my chemistry classes) is very susceptible to combining with other elements, so it normally exists as a “bonded pair.” Here’s the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen

And it’s “bear.” A tree “bears” fruit. A mother “bears” young. Stupid knowledge about random trivia is my cross to “bear.”

i win, i win!! yay! thanks for proof in writing. you rock my world. (yes, something as simple as a point to a website that i should have known to look for rocks my world. shhh.)

bear explaination appreciated. now if only i could remember the difference between affect & effect. that one always gets me. always.

hellohahanarf wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 1:58 am

hello - I remember affect/effect like this: “Those EEriE sound Effects Always Affect my hearing. Also you give someone love and affection to give them Erections. :)

jester wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 3:34 am

wow! you are just such an amazing font of information today aren’t you? either that or hello just asks all the right questions. i always screw up effect and affect too.

as for the tat. i know exactly what i want. it’s something that i’ve wanted for about 6 years now but i’m stuck on placement and i’m not sure how to find an artist rather than just joe blow down the road. i know who did j’s last one and while it’s good, i’ve seen better. *sigh* what i would really love is to have garver from miami ink do it but that’s just not gonna happen. it seems most of the people i know around here with tats go for quantity over quality and this tat i want has so much meaning for me personally that it would be devastating to have someone screw it up.

just checking to see if i got the avatar thingy working.

heather wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 7:47 am

not yet apparently, oh well. off to screw up my blog.

i’m trying to get a three colum template up there. just what i need. lol more storage room for all of my nick nacks. :-)

heather wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 7:50 am

heather - So save up and make an appointment for Garver to do it. You’ve waited this long for it, why not get exactly what you want!? It would certainly help if you live near a major city… you’ll find a better class of artist that way. Of course I got my favorite tat from a guy in Cancun that I met the day before. :D

jester wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 2:24 pm

heather - It can take a day or so for the gravatars to propagate. I’ll go refresh the cache to see if it appears. :)

jester wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 2:25 pm

heather - Your gravatar has arrived. :)

jester wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 2:30 pm

yay! finally something has gone right today! lol i have a face! :-)

syracuse isn’t far from me, about 45 minutes, but i don’t who’s tattooing down there. although meeting garver or kat von d or hannah from la ink sounds pretty awesome. talk about making a memory huh?

why do i get the feeling that your fav tat is your fav due to the memories it brings back more than/just as much as for the tat itself??? is there a story there full of delicious details that i haven’t heard yet?

heather wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 4:57 pm

Heather - It’s a combination of the memory and the fact that he took an existing tattoo and incorporated his own original idea into it to make it better. Sorry the details aren’t any more juicy. :)

jester wrote on August 22nd, 2007 at 10:21 pm

fair enough. :-)
