If you came directly to the site rather than accessing via the feed, you probably noticed that things look a bit different around here.
You may remember a few weeks ago that you all voted that it was time to get a new theme. I finally got the chance this weekend to sit down and design one.
I also went through and cleaned up the plugins that I was using, so things should move a bit faster around here.
What do you think?

sorry i can’t say i’m immediately taken by the new look. i’m still on the fence about it. the last theme had a more whimsical quality to it that i liked. not too many blogs out there that looked fun on first impression like yours.
you know i luv ya’, so please don’t take my criticism badly.
anyway, on a technical note, the side bar widgets are appearing overlapped on my screen. not clear at all. maybe it’s just my monitor?

heather - I just knew someone was going to complain about the header link. I’ll have to see what I can do to fix it. I’m doing an image swap to display the font I wanted, but can’t link it. I’ll have to figure out an alternative.
daduck - You can keep your piggy duck. Just put him in a new environment for a while.:)

Danny - I’m crushed. The sidebar is done in AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript And XML), so if you’ve got javascript disabled it may look weird. What browser/os are you using and I’ll research what it may be doing.
Do you want me to skewer it?

ohhhhhhh, danny is so right. i can barely read the stuff on the side bar. after “tweeting” it pretty much shits the bed and all goes on top of each other. (i’m on hp computer using explorer / 19″ monitor.) damn.
i am glad heather said something about the “jestertunes” at the top taking one back to the homepage, but then i realized that you rock hard enough to put the previous and next post links at BOTH the top and the bottom. can’t tell you enough how much i love that. coz i am all about the easy access to the comments, bay-bee.

hello - I’m a geek. What can I say? I haven’t forgotten about the changes to your site.:)
geek is good. (confusing, but good.) if you weren’t, my site wouldn’t be so damn gorgeous. gorgeous enough that i get excited to write just because i can see things on it. you really did better than i ever expected.
regarding the tweaks to my place? no worries. it will be there when you have time. i know you have a lot on your plate right now.

Ok, here goes:
1. “We are the Jestertunes my friends” seems out of place just floating there. I’d either make it part of the header or remove it entirely. Then I’d move up your content so that it starts up as high as it possibly can.
2. The font doesn’t have to be a serif font, but it’s just too close together and too small to read properly. I might suggest a larger font, or maybe something that’s not bold. The alternative would be to put the content in some type of box where the background is slightly different from the whole content wrapper.
3. Instead of using the same font for your headline, use one of the headline image plugins and use a different font for that - maybe the same one that “jestertunes” is.
4. The background image just ends abruptly on a larger monitor. Maybe consider making the white and gray extend further.
5. The sidebar is a bit of a mess. Rather than using text for it, I’d suggest buttons so that you can use a different font. I’d also make the entire sidebar one solid block, rather than have it overlap the gray onto the white.
6. The posts blend together except for the jester head. Maybe put your meta information for the post (date, tags, comments) as part of a footer line to try to make the more distinguishable. I’d also make the jester head and the thought bubble just a tiny bit smaller - they’re a bit large.
7. The sidebar functionality is neat, but you may want to make the default expanded fully. Also, you can’t contract something once you expand it unless you click on another sidebar item. That’s annoying.
8. Finally, I love the jester shadow, but you may want to consider putting a white line around him or something. On shitty monitors, he’ll be almost indistinguishable against the dark green.

hello - my plate isn’t THAT full. I’d just really like WP to call the new version done.
Avitable - Thanks for the critique.
1. Removed the tagline and moved the content up.
2. Changed the font. Didn’t like a different background, so I left it white.
3. Headline images installed, didn’t like it with the header font, found a handwriting font i could live with.
4. I think you mean on the right side, but I’m not sure. I don’t know that there’s a good way to fix this given the structure I built. Will have to think more about it.
5. Made some changes to the sidebar design that makes it a bit clearer while still retaining the nice stripes.
6. I moved the meta info to the bottom of each post as a post footer. Decided I like the bigger jester and thought bubble.
7. I need to brush up on my javascript skills to make things stay open by default and close when clicked again. I’ll put this on the work on it list.
8. He looks TERRIBLE with a white outline. People with shitty monitors can just suck it. Same with people who refuse to upgrade their Internet Explorer to a version that acts like every other browser out there.

With #4, I did mean on the right side. Maybe there’s no way to do that, but it’s a minor one.
I disagree on the “nice stripes”, but it is much easier to read now, which is nice.
But I like it much better now!
