I’d really like to encourage everyone of my readers with blogs to consider joining me in observing the National Day of Silence tomorrow, Friday April 25.

What is the National Day of Silence? I’m glad you asked. From the official site:

The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students will come together on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.

1) The Day of Silence’s purpose is to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment and effective responses.
2) Hundreds of thousands of students of all beliefs, backgrounds and sexual orientations participate in the Day of Silence.
3) Day of Silence participants encourage schools to implement proven solutions to address anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment.
4) The day is a positive educational experience.

In observance of this day of silence, Jestertunes will go dark for the entire day. I will not be answering comments, twittering, or chatting. I will only answer the most urgent of emails.

Just so you know… Please consider doing the same on your own blogs. Provide a link to the day of silence website, and find out if your kids are participating at their school. If not, why not?

April 25th is ANZAC day in Australia - Kind of like Memorial Day in America, except that it actually means more than a day without postal mail here.

I will be working with Shiny the Gal in IM on Friday night. The Story must go on at the Bar. Can’t hold up the other writers. But it is a wonderful idea, and I commend everyone who participates!
