“I’m not anti or Gay bashing , but …. ”

A small word which says so much

Recently , when I was talking about homophobia to a straight friend , he said “People don’t think like that anymore , do they ?”

Yes , they do , and here is the chilling proof

Sad. Ignorance is sad.

Assholery runs rampant. It is dangerous. Studies show that assholes lead shorter lives. They are indoctrinating our children in public schools. They are infiltrating our government. We must stand up, and stop these assholes from taking over! we need to fight back and let them know that we will not stand for their part in out society!

This was so hard to listen to—this kind of thinking makes me crazy. It hurts everyone.

I have a friend who is in the legislature here in Kentucky and an outspoken advocate for gay rights. I am going to email her the link to this abhorrent thing.

As hideous as it is —-I have to thank you for posting it. This stuff can’t be allowed to hide like a filthy cockroach.

Bitch, you can rationalize your disgusting intolerance any way you like… it doesn’t change the fact that you’re a homophobic piece of crap that has no business being a State Legislator who is supposed to be representing ALL their constituates equally.

Hello - Exactly, it doesn’t matter. I’m able to see the whole video. It’s just more of the same.

Steve - It does. And I have updated the post to include Sally Kern’s contact information.

Dingo - And they are in power. *shiver*

ginamonster - They are eating at our tables, preaching in our churches, teaching in our schools…

turnbaby - I hope she has to resign her post. I fear that she will instead become a hero in that part of the country.

Dave2 - That’s the problem with our democracy. The politicians have forgotten that they are supposed to REPRESENT US and OUR interests, too.

You posted the info at the same time i was posting my comment–yeah I mean the ‘thing’ talking. I don’t know what to call them. The scariest part is that she DOES represent people.

She definitely doesn’t speak for everyone in Oklahoma and would not get my vote if she was from my district. I also have no idea what she is talking about when she says that early childhood education is for “indoctrinating” our young children. I’m a teacher in Oklahoma and I assure you we aren’t doing any indoctrinating - who has time when we spend all our time trying to meet the idiotic requirements of No Child Left Behind.

Very few times in my life have I been speechless. I am seriously speechless. 9/11 was one time I couldn’t even speak. I cannot FATHOM these statements.

I put a mini-blog out on my site begging people to come over here and listen to this video. Thank you for posting it.

I think that this should be a criminally pursued hate crime.

And with respect to the “several decades” of embracing homosexuality? Is she F’ING NUTS? Has she ever HEARD of Europe?

And the terrorist thing? Yeah, I heard about all those hate crimes that gays are committing.

I have no words. I want to apologize on behalf of ALL heteros for this one horrific, nazi demon spawn from hell.

“They’re going after our youngsters! Our cities are going to be run by gays! Rooms everywhere will be immaculately decorated! They’re going to change the national anthem from “The Star Spangled Banner” to “If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher!

Sadly, I doubt there will be repercussions. Keep in mind that this is Oklahoma, the state that brought us Senator Tom Coburn, the fellow who chastised NBC the day after “Schindler’s List” was shown on TV because of the “irresponsible sexual behavior.” Oh — and his enlightened statement that “Lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in Southeast Oklahoma that they’ll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it.”

It’s a sad, sad world. Or at least a sad, sad state.

On a slightly secondary note, I’m frightened by the fact that she’d blanket Islam as “dangerous.” Islam is not dangerous, it’s religious fanatics that are dangerous. This is no different then Christian religious fanaticism, such as Reverend Phelps. Throughout history, cultures have had to deal with people who take the word of any religion, be it Catholicism, Muslim, or any other of the multi-faceted faiths that fill this world, much too far, and thereby cause terrible harm and suffering. You need not look much farther then the Spanish inquisition, Serbia, the Middle East, and many other places, to witness the atrocities religious fanaticism can bring about.

*sigh* I dislike ignorance. This woman bothers me….

Tenshi wrote on March 9th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Tenshi,
I had the exact same thought. She didn’t say religious extremists are bad, she said Islam is bad. Sigh. I suppose she couldn’t say “religious extremists” for very obvious reasons…

(Well, okay, how the hell do I make this thing keep track of my posts…. I suspect I’ll have to start another blog. Goody.)

Where was I? Mel-O, I suppose there’d be a certain irony to if she used “religious extremists.” Here’s the thing, in general, people are oddly less offended by using Islam to describe the whole friggin country, rather then try and be even remotely specific. It’s sorta like saying “you people,” which is so delightfully vague that most people won’t fault you. Whereas everyone and their mothers will climb over you like Mt. Doom if you peg anyone, or point a finger specifically. It’s as though you’re being insensitive for being specific.

I *sigh* again….

By-the-way Jester, I heard you were missing me this weekend. I have missed you as well. And now, partially because of you, I am trying to make a diamond for my wife because we are about to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I think I shall run out of time. It may take longer than three weeks to turn a lump of coal into a diamond in my ass, right? Any advice on how to expedite matters?

My love to all!

turnbaby - I have a few ideas of what to call them.

Melanie - I have several friends and family members in Oklahoma. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of my family voted for this bigoted nutbag, but I’m sure my friends didn’t. How terrible it would be if our teachers could spend some time teaching young kids the meaning of tolerance and hypocrisy.

Kentucky Girl - That would be one of my ideas for a nickname.

Absurdist - I don’t know about it being a “hate crime” but I do believe that we should be able to remove these people from office when they say stupid shit like this. Same with that Fort Lauderdale mayor.

Shiny - Unfortunately it’s not just Oklahoma.

Hello - I haven’t written my letter yet. I just can’t quite do it. There are so many things wrong in her rant that I hardly know where to begin.

mel-o-drama - And yet, not so unbelievable.

othurme - perhaps it’s the fluid that is drained from the blister on a cunt that is then left to ferment which might come close to making a smell that reminds you of this woman.

Sly - That’s not all she deserves. She deserves to have to face her gay constituents and the National Press and apologize during her resignation speech.

Liz - I think her kids have to be in their late 30’s early 40’s at least. I’m thinking if one is gay, she’d know by now. Maybe not.

Miss Britt - She is still in office. Unfortunately, I don’t think any of us who live outside of her district in Oklahoma can do anything but send her nasty emails.

heather - Sad is a good word for it.

Tenshi - Obviously ignorance isn’t limited to matters of sexuality.

DaDuck - You just summed up the US’s foreign policy.

Donnie - At the very least she needs a surgical intervention to remove that stick up her ass. And her foot from her mouth. And oh yeah, welcome back!

hello - I’ll just let you give it a few good whacks on my behalf.

I didn’t have time to read all the comments, so someone may have already said this but…did anyone else notice that she cited higher numbers of depression among homosexuals? I don’t know if that’s true or not, but if it is…gee, think it has anything to do with living in a society where people can say things like this and not be called out for the disgusting bigots they are?

That aside, it really is scary knowing this kind of thinking still exists, but it does. My grandmother, for example, told my mother a few years ago that she doesn’t “believe in” gays. They’re just in it for the attention, you know.

O.O

So yeah, it still exists, and all we can really do about it is what you’ve done here: Point it out when it happens and make sure the people saying these things don’t do so without consequences.

Epiphany - The suicide rate among homosexual teenagers is nearly 4x the rate of straight teens; I’d argue that’s for the very reason you state. Unfortunately there are many people who don’t believe in gays, which leads me to one of my favorite equations:

Gays = Make Believe
Leprechauns = Make Believe
therefore
Gays = Leprechauns

Think about it, the rainbow is important to both!
