iPhone Gurus: What do I need?

Ok techies…

I plan to purchase my first iPhone tomorrow. I’ve never had one, but I use a Mac every day.

What things do I need to do to be ready to go tomorrow?

I would like to be able to sync my google calendar with my iPhone calendar. What program will I need to do that, or should I just plan to install the mobile gmail application to the iPhone and deal with it that way?

I’m sure it will automatically sync my contacts from my Mac Address book, but is there a better system?

Are there any super cool tricks that I should be aware of in terms of keeping my life organized between my laptop/work computer/gmail/twitter/ping.fm/plurk/myspace/facebook/last.fm/etc?

I know we don’t talk geek much around here anymore, but I’m totally geeking out today with all the twitterers in an uproar and excitement. I’ve been waiting for this for 2 years now.

Geek out with me?

With the new MobileMe’s ability to push calendars, contacts and email, I will likely stop using Google Calendar in favor of iCal and the iCal in the iPhone. If you don’t want to go that route, check out programs like SpanningSync which will syncronize your Google Calendar with iCal both directions. Finally, you can also use iCal as a viewer of your Google Calendar and that sync with the iPhone. You won’t be able to update the calendar through the iPhone or iCal but you can view the information.Get Twitterific for the iPhone (free version is great) and get Shozu. These will keep your life up to date on a varying degree of social mediums. Don’t forget the Facebook and Myspace apps. Wordpress is working on their app so hold tight. You MUST get the Pandora app, fun, free and fabulous; as well as the Midomi which can detect the song title of music playing around you, or you can sing or hum the tune.Get Evernote, Remote, Urbanspoon, Yelp and Loopt. I’m waiting for the Ping.fm (similar to Shozu) and BrightKite apps. That’s all for now, but I have more if you want them :)

well the first thing you want to do is install the wordpress plugin that makes it easier to read your site on the iPhone.

Other than that…. You should be good. It has gmail already. You can do twitter via text instead of app. Same win reader.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the wordpress iphone plugin, it just slows down the iPhone’s ability to read the site, I got rid of mine. However, I would recommend WPhone until the Wordpress App comes out. It let’s you manage and write to your Wordpress blog.

Justin Scott - I have to keep using google cal because of a couple of group calendars I use there. Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like i’ll be spending a fortune on apps! :D
Miss Britt - I’m so excited *bounce*

Radio Matthew - Then I will enjoy it even more.

Justin Scott - OMG. Blogging from my phone? You all are in trouble now.

Dave2 - So…. it’s just like the iDildo in that respect?

You can also sync your Google Calendar with Outlook and Outlook updates iPhone’s calendar.

And the Wordpress app does not slow down the iPhone’s rendering of your blog in all situations. It sped mine up considerably.

Argh, I have to wait until August to get mine. Might be better since it’s harder than hell to get one, it seems. Plus they’re having trouble with the activations overloading all the servers.

What in the hell kinda of blog is this? How in the hell did I do google and end up on a dam site where men suck each other’s dicks? This is the most discussing thing I’ve seen so far this year. Are you freaking serious!!! You’re proud of this site? You people actually think this is normal and sane? A bunch of sissies parading their deviant carrying on’s before the internet world. I am deeply ashamed that I even behold such a pathetic website. Whoever the sissy that owns this site needs to be examined!!!

Avitable - I don’t use Outlook at home. Hmm. I gotta figure it out.

Hello -I didn’t get it. They were sold out all over the area, and like hell I was going to wait overnight in line.

Karl - I’ll get mine soon. Very soon dammit.

Shock As Hell - I’m just wondering which part of my post about getting an iPhone was the most sexually provocative. Was it when I said I wanted to use it as dildo and gang bang random strangers on the subway with it, or was it when I mused aloud if the iPhone would come with a FleshLite attachment that I could share with my friends? I know… it was just now when I suggested that you take your computer mouse and stuff it right up your bigoted ignorant poop-chute.

Dave - Don’t tell anyone. I’m deeply ashamed of it.

I love how his spell check missed “disgusting” and “damn” but it remembered the apostrophe in “other’s”

Hi Jester….
I just popped over here from Karl’s, but actually you and I have been in the same chatroom before! I just got my iPhone last month - the older, more expensive version, but I love it. You will love playing with it. (somehow that came out wrong…..)

Anyway, hi. Nice to “meet” you.

OMG! Got my iPhone on Friday and I am so loving it. I cannot imagine life before it. Although Shock As Hell got me thinking. When will they come up with a vibrator attachment/app? Then my life will really be complete. ;-)
