My friends, my name is Jester, and I’m here to recruit you.

I have three separate but related blog posts simultaneously bouncing around my head and I hardly know where to begin.

Over the years, I’ve tried very hard not to ask anything from my readers. The occasional comment… a funny caption for a photo… a sincere request to make sure that everyone vote.

I don’t run contests here. I don’t ask for donations or beg for birthday gifts for months on end.

But I’m asking you for a favor tonight.

It won’t inconvenience you, I promise.

Please go see the movie “Milk.” If you are a friend of mine, I have to assume you have at least a little bit of a passing interest in gay rights, or the civil rights movement in general.

Please, please see this movie. Please take your teenagers. Please take along a friend who might not be as open-minded or compassionate.

Call it your Christmas present to me. Call it my birthday present. I don’t care.

You’re probably going to see a movie this holiday season anyway.

Please promise me you will see this one.
