I stole this from Joe.My.God:

And THIS is something I’ve been screaming about for over a year: Efforts are underway to strip the Mormon Church of their Tax-Exempt Status as a religious organization.
It’s about fucking time. I’m ready to go on the offensive. Churches are not supposed to be contributing to political campaigns.
Your religious beliefs are not supposed to drive our government.
I will no longer stand still and let YOU legislate my morality based on your fictional mythology.
Catholics? You’re next.
This should have never been on the ballot to begin with. The masses should NOT have the ability to litigate the private lives of citizens. Grrrr…
Their was a list of many thousands of Mormons who vehemently opposed the church giving money that was delivered to the church president. I thought that was cool.
As a recovering Mormon myself, I can’t agree with you more about churches having this kind of power. They are supposed to be helping those who choose to worship with them not shove their beliefs down everyone’s throats. …in my opinion.

Wow.
Exactly what my sentiments expressed previously.
When religious groups contribute to State issues they should be stripped of their tax exempt status and that includes property taxes.
Believe the expression is “you can’t have your cake and eat or keep it”
I like the idea of stripping ALL churches of their tax exempt status. If they don’t want to pay taxes on a portion of their wealth, they’ll have to prove that it was used for charitable purposes.

I had no idea that the Mormon church contributed so much money to government issues.
It’s crap. Complete and utter crap.
Hell yes Jester! I’ve been screaming for this to happen for years. No more tax exemption for the churches until they stay the hell out of political affairs. Stumbling this and passing it on to a few friends as well! (btw – hope you’re feeling better!)

Sigh. I hope this get overturned as violating the separation of church and state because the only thing I saw? was that the law was passed on the platform that “god said so in the bible” and that’s why marriage should be between a man and a woman.
total bull shit.

As a former Mormon, I am in full support to have their tax-exempt status removed. They crossed the line this time. In the 60′s, it was interracial marriage. In the 70′s, it was the ERA. Now it’s same-sex marriage. None of these social issues ever affected ANYTHING they do as a church.

Jester, my man you asked: “What’s next for Gays?” Well, I will tell you what should be next: Repentance! Once that has occurred, then maybe people can accept that there is an element of society that simply hold to the traditional Judeo-christian values as it relates to Marriage and the Family. That’s not a bad thing at all. Think about it, even you come from that kind of family, in that, you have both a Mother and Father that love each other, loves you, and raised you in that God-Ordained relationship of one man and one woman. So, why do you personally rebel against what you were born into? That is amazing to me!
