I received a phone call on the Jestertunes Listener Line a couple of days ago that somewhat surprised me. It came from an unknown number, but the caller was well known to the readers of this blog.

I’m not sure what to say about that. I really wish I had been awake to actually answer the call. I have so many questions.

In other news, Miss Britt has a post about the sex offender’s registry list that has managed to ruffle some feathers neutral-toned-argyle soccer-mom sweaters. The comments section got out of hand with some attacks, but I’m pretty happy with the comment I left. You’ll have to click over and read it to see what I’m talking about. Sorry, but I like to make you work for things on occasion.

Dave from Blogography is ok following last night’s kidney stone attack. You should check out his recap of the situation, and learn about the efforts to get Lisa from Clusterfook.com and her kids to Disneyland before she battles cancer for the THIRD time. It’s a worthy cause.

In Wal-Mart news, I received a not-so-anonymous email linking me to a story about how Wal-Mart has decided NOT to take the $470k settlement away from the employee who was permanently disabled in an accident. I suppose we’re all supposed to cluck and say “Isn’t it great that they have come around to the right way of thinking?” In actuality, it just pisses me off more, because they only reacted due to the PR nightmare they started, and not because it’s the right thing to do.

finally, from the “how to avoid being sued department,” umb, who considers himself to be a porn connoisseuR has been talking about this clip he found a few Years ago of A very popular curreNt actor in a low-budget (is there any other kind) Porn flick. i’ve studied still pHotos from the clIp side by side with a photo of this weLL know actor shIrtless. the liPs, eyes, eyebrows, nose, and niPples arE the same. if it’s not him, it’s his doppleganger. i don’t want to say who it is, but you should be able to figure it out reading between the lines. the link is of course not safe for work (nsfw) at all.

I didn’t post a reply to Britt’s post because there was already a lot of comment clutter (and I wouldn’t have added much to the conversation that hadn’t already been said), but I thought you made some pretty valid points. My concerns about the “sex offender list” have to do with the permanent status of it — without much possibility of rehabilitation. I understand that many people have strong emotions about this issue, but I think the gut reaction can get in the way of critical thinking at times.

I guess I’m too new to know about this “Doctor.” But if he flies around in TARDIS, I’m there…

And yes — I think you and I come down on the same side regarding our philosophies on implied security through fear. Ever read anything by Bruce Schneier? May be worth a look…

I also have the same philosophy about “security” and fear-mongering. It’s a bit like making people feel all safe and secure traveling with only 3 oz. bottles of liquids on an airplane. Stoopid!

Geeky - Ok… so for the new folks around here, The Doctor is the current moniker of one of the commenters here that believes I am going to burn in the fiery pits of hell for being gay. He started out pretending to be a woman that went by the name “Concerned Christian.” A quick search on this site should turn up examples of past comments. I have blocked numerous IP addresses and logins, but he keeps returning. Lately, he’s been behaving himself and is merely odd instead of spouting bigoted rhetoric so I’ve let him stick around because I find his attempts at attracting my lovely female readers like some strange vulture/peacock hybrid slightly amusing.

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I’ve seen those hateful comments. As long as he’s behaving himself, I suppose it is rather amusing that he called in to your listener line.
