It’s time to find out who will be going on tour this summer as part of the American Idol Top Ten.
Last night’s show was pretty weak. The Beatles two weeks in a row was too much. Save one or two performances, the show was boring and lackluster.
The season seven mentors were announced: Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Neil Diamond.
There is another songwriting competition this year. I may consider writing something this go round.
Time for the dreaded group number. They included “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” which is an awesome Beatles tune. As great as Lennon/McCartney were as a songwriting pair, my favorite Beatles songs are those written by George Harrison, like that one.
Some technical problems during the group number… Ramiele’s microphone isn’t on for the duet with Brooke, then the cameraman seems to have stumbled drunk while focusing on Kristy Lee Cook. I feel like I’m back in high school show choir with the hokey choreography and multi-part harmonies.
Time for the first of the results:
Brooke White is the first victim: she’s safe and makes up the first member of the top 10.
Carly Smithson is up next: she’s in the bottom 3. That’s CRAP. She’s probably the strongest voice in the competition.
David Archuleta is next to take a spot in the top ten.
Michael Johns defended his song choice from last night and took his place in the top ten.
David Cook moves into the top ten next.
Kristy Lee Cook is in the bottom three with Carly.
Jason Castro moves into the spotlight for judgment, and quickly runs over to the couch to join the rest of the top ten.
Ramiele Malubay squeaked through to the Top Ten. I can’t believe she wasn’t in the bottom three.
I hate the fan call in portion of the show. This is painful. Just painful. Kill me now.
Oh joy, we followed that painful bit with another painful bit featuring the dimwitted Kellie Pickler. Though Ryan had a great line, “She’s grown in… so many… ways…” Could he be referencing her breast implants? Perhaps?
She’s here to sing “Red High Heels.” Seriously, she sounds like the retarded twin sister of a hybrid between Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss. If she could just stand still and not speak or sing I wouldn’t want to twist her neck. But, since she doesn’t shut up, I’d really like to snap her like a twig.
Great… the Idol Gives Back promo with Elliot Yamin and Fantasia Barrino made me cry when the new mother said she was naming her child Elliot. He burst into tears, so did I. I’m such a fag.
Back to the results:
Syesha Mercado is put through to the top ten.
Amanda Overmyer and Chikezie are left. Chikezie is safe, which means Amanda joins Carly and Kristy Lee Cook in the bottom three.
My choice is Kristy Lee Cook to go home. Let’s see who it is.
Carly is safe, and moves over to join the Top Ten.
Amanda is out.
I think it’s actually a good choice, as she is a one trick pony who will be able to ride the publicity from this show to a successful career doing what she does. She’s just not an all-around great pop star.
Still, I wish KLC had left.
