American Idol The Top 12 will be named tonight. It all really ramps up from tonight forward.

We’re treated to a performance from the stand out artist from last season, Blake Lewis. He really should have won last year. His cd is way better than Jordin Sparks’ blah-inducing album. Great song from Blake who looks really good tonight.

Over 36 Million votes came in for the contestants this week.

David Cook is the first person put through to the Top 12. David Archuleta joined him. Jason Castro’s version of “Hallelujah” was enough to secure his spot in the Top 12.

Brooke White is the first girl sent to the Top 12 chairs. I’m so glad! I love her! Syesha Mercado makes her way to the chairs, also. Kady Malloy is eliminated! Again, I’m glad. I was about to get really annoyed with her. And OH MY GOD her exit song was soooooooooooo bad I almost never want to hear another song ever again for fear that the singer will destroy the notes like this. I don’t think she hit a single note in key. *shiver*

David Hernandez has advanced to the Top 12. Michael Johns advances as well. Luke Menard is eliminated from the competition. He’s pretty, but his voice just isn’t strong enough to break wind.

Ramiele Malubay advances to the Top 12. Carly Smithson is sent along behind her. Amanda Overmyer has also secured a spot in the next round. Which means the last spot is left for either Asia’h Epperson or Kristy Lee Cook. Kristy Lee Cook moves in to the Top 12 and my hometown girl, Asia’h is sent back to Joplin. I think she was just completely overshadowed by some other talents, and didn’t get the country voters behind her like Kristy did.

Danny Noriega and Chikezie are left. Danny Noriega is eliminated tonight and Chikezie moves into the Top 12. No need to worry about poor Danny, though. I’m sure he has a long career ahead of him as a transexual performer in Vegas. Maybe he’ll hook up with that little whiny queen Cristian from Project Runway. Maybe not, two bottoms rarely make a good couple. *Meow*

I’m pretty sure this is exactly what I predicted. Go me.

Here’s your first look at the American Idol Season 7 Top 12 (in order of my preference, not necessarily who I think will win. Unfortunately they are not the same list).

David and Amanda are the best of the best. I think that if two COULD win, which can’t, they both should win. David is the one that sang the Lionel Richie song in rock, right?

I really don’t like the comment that you made about Jordin Sparks CD being a “BLAH INDUCING ALBUM! That may be YOUR opinion, but in my opinion it’s an awesome cd and one of my favorites of all times. Personally I was disappointed in Blakes but again that is MY opinion!

As for the top two…I think if should be David A and David H. As for Michael Johns and Carly…well they’re not American Citizens so I don’t see how they can be AMERICAN idols! Send them home! Amanda Overmyer can’t do anything but the same screechy singing and her personality is BLAH…send her home too!

Sandy - Are you saying we should “send them home” like off them show? Or “send them home” like back to their own country?

This should be interesting.

Othurme…I’m not saying to send them back to their country because at least they have visas, but I don’t believe that they should be on a show to find the next AMERICAN idol when they’re not citizens from our country. We couldn’t go overseas and try out for their idol with being American citizens. I know back when idol started you had to be a citizen so I don’t know when it changed but they have pushed for Michael and Carly all season! Also…they both had record deals that bombed so what makes everyone think they can do it this time! Michael also is TOO confident and lacks personality!

I don’t think they’ve ever had the rule about being a citizen. I think a valid work visa is all that has ever been required. I also would doubt there is any rule that an American couldn’t go to Australia with a valid work visa and be on Aussie Idol.

Is it important to you that all of America’s idols be American? Because they’re not. There are plenty of non-Americans to look up to, respect, admire, and appreciate.

As far as having not made it before? It doesn’t mean they’re not talented or even that they put out bad albums. Many artist don’t make it on their first try. Especially ones that don’t have the kind of exposure before AI can offer. Or the shit load of cash to produce their album that independent labels can’t provide. Or the world class studios, producers, engineers, graphic artists, publicists, distribution chains, and retailers to help them make and sell their album after they win AI. Many more great artists would succeed on their first try if given those resources to work with.

And….Carly? She’s married to an American. I’m pretty sure she’s now an American citizen.

They should all be from Brazil. Period. ‘Nuff said.

Actually, I think that they should all have to be US Citizens.

I wouldn’t care if they were Martian. It’s just a singing competition, not the presidential race.

Absurdist - You were just up too early for Hotness this week I guess. David Cook is the one that sang Lionel Richie, yes. There are 3 Davids in the Top 12. Confusing.

Sandy - Funny thing about this being my blog where I pay for the hosting and the domain and spend countless hours creating content for it. My opinion is bound to sneak in to my posts. I’d like to see A) the rules that state that contestants must be American citizens as opposed to authorized to work in the US. B) Proof that either Carly or Michael are not American citizens or otherwise ineligible to compete. My guess is that if they were in violation of the rules, they would not have even gotten as far as auditioning for the judges.

Othurme - I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt that she meant simply ‘off the show.’

Wayne - If only she could sing.

Sandy - I don’t think there are any rules against an American being on other Idol shows around the world. I would imagine there are rules about being able to perform in the primary language of the host country and being authorized to work in the host country. Hell, Simon Cowell is a citizen of the UK… should he not be allowed to judge? The rules clearly state that the contestants must not *currently* have a management or recording contract. Contestants who are taking their music careers seriously are bound to have had some success, however slight, at getting record label and management attention in the past. Kelly Clarkson had a manager where she got on Season 1.

hello - I think you should complain to your boss. Blake was ubercute last night.

Othurme - Right. Good point about the marriage thing, too. Forgot she was married.

Absurdist - Funny, the only thing I care about is whether or not they can sing.

Othurme - The sad thing is that I think more people vote for American Idol than turn out for most elections. Maybe if they made democratic elections as easy to do as AI voting…

Australian Idol requires Citizenship or Permanent Residency ( not just a work visa )

The ruling is : You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (and be able to supply documentation proving this)

A Permanent Resident is a person ( like myself ) who came to Australia on the migration programme prior to 1973 or who are “specialist” migrants ( doctors etc ) granted Permanent status for a set period

Two years ago the winner of Australian Idol was from Northern Ireland and had a 4-year Permanent Residency Visa , becomming a Citizen after winning Idol

His status was explained early on and there was good-humoured joking about an Irishman winning the contest !

Last year there was controversy that 3 or 4 people in the top 12 were from the Hillsong Church who use music to promote Christianity
The church happens to boradcast a Sunday Service on the same TV Network as Idol !

I KNOW you didn’t just call my Christian from Project Runway a little whiny queen! *shocked* He wants to come here and play with me and we’ll fix each other’s hair and dress up our barbies in couture clothes and it will be FABULOUS and FIERCE. EY LUFF HIM…hehe! (But you are right, he’s a catcher, too and you need both a pitcher and a catcher to make the team work properly.) :D

Yay! The ones sent home were exactly who I thought should go…yay!

Dingo - Good to know there are “scandals” on other versions of Idol. It’s not just us.

Kentucky Girl - Oh, that Christian on PR made me want to throttle him. If I never hear him saying “I’m Fierce!” again, I’ll be a happy man.

jester wrote on March 8th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

*pout* But he IS Fierce. LOL
