So for those of you who have been interested and have inquired recently, I can now officially announce:
After more than six months of actively looking for one, I finally got a job!
The “official offer letter” should arrive in the mail this week with all the salary details, but the hiring supervisor was able to finally confirm that I would be getting the offer.
What can I say, it’s the government’s way of doing things… it takes a long time and there are mountains of red tape that must be sorted through to make anything happen.
I am returning to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Long time readers will know that I spent five years at LBNL before being laid off and striking off on my own in the cafe/tech company business.
I will actually be working in the exact same position as a Web Developer that I helped create… the only difference is that I will be in a different department.
It will be a bit difficult for me to adjust to a “normal” schedule after more than 3 years of my own hours, but the health benefits, retirement, and most of all steady income makes it worth my while!
In other news: Check out Avitable’s site today… he hosted a “mad libs” contest the other night and has posted the results. They are pretty funny. My entry actually fit in a bit TOO well.
wooohoooo Congrads!
That’s tremendous news – congratulations!
DFW – Thanks!
Avitable – It’s very relieving news! Like a good piss…
Congrats Babe!!!!
Work? What is that? I’m retired. All kidding aside, welcome back to the working world and all its benefits. Congratulations and best wishes.
Congrats! Hope it goes well!
My baby is coming home to me! I’ve missed you! Lunch at Toyo!
Eek!! Good luck Jester!
by the way! I LIVE in those mountains of red tape! Come join me in my cave!
red tape… mmmm
my preeeeciiiioussssss
yay! i’m so happy the weight of not having a job has been lifted from your shoulders. congrats on this opportunity.
wonder if the new employment will provide lots of good humor stories for your blog…
how very cool! i hope you find enjoyment in your new job. just make sure you find a way to keep up with this blog. that should be your first priority over any paid position with benefits and all that blah blah blah! LOL
seriously, good luck and best wishes!
I guarantee he will have many many stories worthy of a blog from his new employment!
Cheers to ridiculous bureaucracy!
When you get here, don’t forget to fill out your JHQ, talk to your DSC (maybe your EHS DL too!), and prepare for your PRD so that you’re in line with ISM!
woo woo!
Dutchy – Thanks much!
Crail – I don’t think I’ll ever be able to retire. But the idea is nice.:)
Howard – Thanks! Me too!
Lee – Whoo hoo! The Lee and Paul show has been brought back from cancellation. Just like Family Guy!
Kate – Eek and whoo hoo is right!
Lee – Red Tape is surprisingly good protection from the elements.
hello – being able to afford to leave the house on a regular basis is sure to inject some new life into this blog. And Lee is absolutely right… there is a wealth of material to be mined from working for the government.
Danny – Wild horses can’t keep me away from the blog… though some days it’s hard to find something worthy of writing about…
Lee – I’m already filling some of that stuff out. The paperwork has begun and I don’t even start til the 17th!
Yay job! Woo!
I am excited for your steady income and benefits. I also hope you’ll enjoy the socialization. Otherwise, I am very, very sorry.
Make sure you always read and abide by the TPS report.
Yay!! congrats on the job. i’ll be thinking of you at your first day at your new job at the same time i pick up my first paycheck at my new job. gotta love benifits, they’re one of the top reasons i took a job that kinda freaks me out by reminding me daily what a flippin idiot i am when it comes to technology. lol
you’re gonna do great and raise the bar on style all at the same time i’m sure. just leave the hot pants at home.
Bianca – I know! Being unemployed sucks!
Liz – The TPS report I can handle. The cover sheet for the TPS report is a bit much, and if they take my stapler, it’s over!
heather – Why is everyone so against my hot pants?
you have heard of the hole in the ozone layer, right? well, the earth can only take so much more heat before it manages to blow up. and you in hotpants would send us over that edge. so really it’s just an ecological concern.
honest
Well played, good sir. I am moving up that way in a few months, so I’ll have to catch you on a more regular weekly basis.
Congrats sweetie! I know you’ll have less stress to deal with now. Well, maybe not less, but different. Anyways, you are always welcome to wear the hot pants in my neighborhood. Just make sure there’s always at least a 10 foot difference between us and don’t call me by my real name, just call me Jim or something… lol
Toby – I can’t believe you’re hating on the hot pants too. Damn. You don’t look like a Jim. A Charlie maybe.
Congratulations, and maybe it won’t be so bad working on the clock. The regular paycheck thing I totally dig. It was a habit I quickly got used to–have fun!
Lori – Thanks much. I’m sure it won’t be so bad. Getting used to that schedule again is going to be the hardest part. I’m especially looking forward to that regular paycheck.
Well, I’m glad to hear it!…Long drive though?
Branden – It’s not *too* bad. 45m – 1 hour each way.
Does being a government lab employee entitle you to any of that good government pot?
Killer – If it did, I couldn’t tell you about it. No really, I couldn’t form the words. Duuuuuuuude.
