If you’ve been around at all today you probably noticed the assault being made on me by the subject of last night’s post, The Hazards of Publishing Your Contact Information.
William Anderson couldn’t let it go. So he left a series of comments on Methinks Thou Doth Protest Too Much and even on my birthday post where all of my lovely regular readers left me well wishes, What Do These People Have in Common.
After over an hour, and increasingly ignorant comments, I decided to do something I have never felt the need or desire to do.
I put William Anderson on the ban list.
I believe in free speech. I believe that we should all be able to defend our ideals and morals and ethics.
However, this is MY blog. And as I have the right to chase trespassers off my front lawn, I also have the right to keep bigots and ignorant assholes from hijacking my website.
As I was writing this post, I got the following email from my Contact Form:

I heard that the word penis is Hebrew for William Anderson.
To all you other William Anderson’s in the world, I pity you for your parents’ cruelty in naming you.
That kind of cruelty is liable to make you crave a man’s love, just like the penis that’s been commenting on this blog today.
Frankly, I’m surprised that you engaged him in conversation for as long as you did. You’re not going to be able to change the mind of someone like that. No offense, babe, but by entertaining him in IM, you essentially asked for him to antagonize you further. If you had ignored him in the first place, he probably would have gone his merry way and antagonized someone else.
So, I’m curious…why did you engage him in that conversation?
Bianca - There’s a difference between engaging in a discussion, even a argument, and having my site hijacked.
I am genuinely interested in having a conversation with someone who can make an argument against homosexuality that does not evoke the bible or other religious edict.
I have no intention of changing HIS mind about his beliefs. What I think is important is that other people who are possibly questioning their stance on the issue can see just how ridiculous and ignorant people of William Anderson’s ilk truly are.
There’s no better way to show their lunacy than letting them open their mouths.
I get the “sore looser” vibe from the fact that he sent you an e-mail….what do you expect Bianca, if people don’t say anything back we get stuck with people like George W. Bush!
I guess the difference I see is that this guy was clearly looking for exactly this kind of attention, and that’s what he got. I quite imagine he’s feeling greatly satisfied by the whole exchange and the resulting ban. It’s predatory behvior, and I hate to see anyone feed it.
Well, that would also imply that he was smart enough to think like that. I would say that the Severely Handicapped students I work with are more intelligent than he is. (lol)
Branden - Yeah, you should see all of the other comments and emails that he’s sent since I banned him.
Bianca - I’m sure he does feel quite satisfied with himself. He’s delusional. He came across as a holier-than-thou hypocritical asshole to everyone else. That’s the point!

Well, when I first read his comment on my blog I didn’t put 2 and 2 together, so I just translated it as a well -meaning individual truly interested in seeing me return to my faith. I have no problem with that attitude, as long as they aren’t too disappointed if it doesn’t happen.
But then I realized who had left the comment, and it did taint the whole thing.
Bianca - That’s the danger religious leaders need to acknowledge. The most extreme people are always the most vocal, and they harm everyone around them by association.
It happens in the gay community too. When you see footage from gay pride celebrations, you never see the thousands of “normal” looking people that attended, you only see the clips of the guy wearing nothing but a lame thong, gold body paint and 15 foot feather headdress.
Love the guy in the headdress, but c’mon! That’s not who I want representing me on television.

People like that guy should be the ones to point a gun to their head, and maybe run into one of those Jesus Camps and take out those assholes as well…but that probably makes me a bad person to say that…but what the fuck ever…hah. I’m a horrible person..shame shame…eat me!
Perhaps he doesn’t know where the real money is… not sucking on penises but being sucked…

It never ceases to amaze me how these spammers work. I used to see it on a friend’s board that I help(ed?) moderate. regardless of the content, these people are sad, bored individuals looking for meaning and attention. like a little kid, they feel that any attention is good attention.
Funny, although I have not read the whole Bible, I did read the part where is said that Homosexuals should be left alone. Not harassed, not beaten, to “fixed”, left alone. hmm.
After all, and I am just opinionating, who, if they had a choice, would CHOOSE a lifestyle where they would be subjected to bigotry and hatered? and if God made us all, doesn’t that mean God made gay people Gay too? and isn’t God supposed to love us all or something? OH! but I don’t think logic comes into play for these people.

Evidently Christian values now includes the right to demonize, and terrorize, anyone who does not believe exactly what, and how, you do. All you have to do is say “As a Christian. . .” then follow that statement up with anything you feel like.

No, I agree it isn’t all Christians. . .but you know what is coming when you hear the “As a Christian I. . .”. Whenever somebody leaves off the denomination and just starts spouting off you know it is most likely going to be a load of crap.
Vinniw - Where’s your head ad? Christians historically have not used recruiting strategies which include terrorizing other people. I can barely think of one inquisition or crusade or witch-hunt or holocaust in which Christians terrorized people who didn’t share the same beliefs.
This isn’t my blog - so maybe I’m out of line. But I do come here often… and I’m pretty sure on more than one occassion I’ve seen it written that making gross exaggerations and/or assumptions about an entire group of people is what Jester likes to call “bigotry”.
Why is bigotry OK as long as it’s directed at Christians?
I’m inclined to agree, Miss Britt, but since I’m ex-Christian I’m less vocal about defending those who are not ex.
Fact is, there are some really awful people who call themselves Christians, but there are just as many wonderful people who claim the same title. My mom is one of those.
We just have to remember there are shitty people in every demographic. There are wonderful people in every demographic too. Don’t judge a demographic by it’s worst participants.
I just don’t see how people could flock to religion especially catholicism. It makes no sense to me.
The Catholics are one of the most brute and horrible religions, dating back to the Crusades…why would someone in their right might not look at those past deeds and not see what their “leaders” are capable of. We now have this whole child molestation thing going on…I was not molested by a priest but thousands upon thousands have. So you just turn your head? There is obviously something wrong with organized religion. I am not saying that people of faith are all evil either…but how can you sit in your church and not think of these things?!
I’m not sure Miss Britt, I think it’s that same old double standard that plagues our society. Have you ever noticed that we as humans like to label ourselves? Whether it’s your faith, your heritage, your job, we all must BE something. So I will make a declaration right now.

Vinnie - I know exactly where you are coming from… there are so many people who use their religion as a justification for their ignorant and misguided views. What we as young gay men need to remember is that we can’t paint all Christians with the same big brush that many of them have painted us with.
Othurme - All religions have done this at one point in time or another. Look at the middle east, where even different sects of the same Islamic religion causes major wars. Though admittedly, the Christians have probably been the worst.

You are absolutely right that it is equally bad to accuse ALL Christians of the ignorance and bigoted attitudes that some manage to exude.
Like I’ve said before, the fact is that it’s usually the most vocal of any group that is the most fanatical and rude!

Branden - Organized religion is just like a government (and in many cases is worse in that there are fervent members). There is corruption and mismanagement and dissension among the ranks, and it’s very hard to be involved and not either get completely swept up in it, or get an awful taste in the mouth.
Ginamonster - I certainly hope no one thinks I was trying to bash on Christians… I’ve written many times before that I have had lots of experience with the church and members of the church. What I wanted and still want to do is point out the ignorance and vitriol being spouted at me for being who I am and not hiding from it.

Jester, I didn’t at all think that it was your intention to bash Christians. It just seemed like the conversation as whole was a hop, skip and a jump from going that route.
And Branden - I cannot even begin to speak for Catholocism, or all Catholics. But for me I will say - I don’t expect you to understand it. I just hope that you can respect it.
As a straight woman I cannot even begin to understand the sexual aspects of being a gay man. But then again, as a straight woman, I don’t have to.
I choose, however, to respect it.

Miss Britt, you constantly portray yourself as an open minded yet faithful individual. I have yet to read one of your posts or see an argument where you have negated someone else’s beliefs for the sake of your own. I respect you for it. It is an attitude we would all do well to adopt. Different isn’t bad, it’s not wrong, it’s just different.

Sweetie you missed the point entirely. There is a “distinct” difference between the Vagina and the Anus. One was “Designed” for recieving a Penis and one was clearly not! Another way of saying that is one is for “entrance” and the other is for “Exit”. One woman cannot penetrate another woman with a Penis because she doesn’t have one. One man cannot penetrate a man’s vagina because he doesn’t have one! That is what we call a “perversion” which means to change something from its original purpose and design.
