“I’m not a slave to the ‘demons from my past.’ I do not find myself hindered in any way from the treatment I received by my peers as a child.”

I wasn’t implying you were still tormented by demons, if I did it certainly wasn’t my intention. It seems you and I had similar experiences, and somehow we both got through it more or less unscathed.

“I do find myself being more sensitive to other people. I find myself making every effort possible to include everyone when possible.”

I do too, but “when possible” is the key point here.

“My posts were meant to point out that it is quite often those people who were excluded and discriminated against who go on to exclude and discriminate later.”

That is true…some people let their demons control them into adulthood. However, like I said, I wasn’t implying you were one of those people.

“I don’t mean to single you, or even Dan out. If I were meaning to do that, or if I were sincerely pissed off by it, I would have linked your site and directly addressed the posts to you.”

Good, that’s much appreciated. I always like knowing exactly where I stand with people.

“I’ve got no problems doing that as anyone who regularly reads this blog can attest to (check out my Flaming Fuck You’s for proof of that!).”

Oh yes…I have a few of those as well (albeit buried deep in my archives).

“I really want to address the rest of your comment, but I want to do a cohesive and thought out response that comment-reply doesn’t really allow.”

Let’s just discuss this in email…comment sections aren’t exactly conducive to dialogue (at least in my opinion).

“For the record, what I told you at the party, that I enjoy your writing and that I always thought we had a lot in common and could be great friends still stands.”

And the feeling is mutual. No animosity from my end…just discussing things with a fellow gentleman.

Chad - I think you're missing the point that I was trying to make. I'm not a slave to the "demons from my past." I do not find myself hindered in any way from the treatment I received by my peers as a child.

Well, I have to say my friendship with Dan and the rest of the San Francisco bloggers is anything but a clique, Jester. For one, I don't see them very often, as I really haven't had a lot of time to hang out with any of them for the past year. It's not like the bunch hangs out every week, talking about how "cool" we are, and who gets to hang out with "us" and who doesn't. For one, I'm 36 years old; high school ended in 1988, and I moved on, forever leaving that kind of bullshit behind me. If I seem aloof or standoffish as a result of what I post in my blog, it's because I have 473,291 more pressing things going on than vigilantly checking my comments and responding to every one of them. I don't take my website very seriously, and neither does anyone else in this so-called clique. Dan works even longer hours than I do, and to be honest, I can't believe he even had the time to loosely organize the party. Apparently, some folks wanted ample parking (hello...this is San Francisco) and name tags for the event (it wasn't intended to be a name tag sort of party...just a simple get-together celebrating Pride and camaraderie), but I guess a nice, loosely-organized party where everyone can mingle and meet and have a good time just isn't sufficient for some folks. That's okay...they are welcome to throw their own parties in a suburban area with large parking lots and all the Avery 8395 labels they want.

As far as your Valentines Day history...if you think you're the only one who had to endure such indignation, you're wrong. I never got many Valentines either (I dreaded Valentine's Day), and to be honest, I usually sat at the lunch table by myself. I too was considered "gifted" but I was such a fucking weirdo I didn't have many friends. I was also called faggot and beat up every other day and often climbed up and hid on garage roofs on my way home to avoid the gangs from the public school who preyed on Catholic school kids like me. I wore thick glasses and listened to strange music and was horrible at sports. I wore braces, had a stutter, and read Kurt Vonnegut instead of Sports Illustrated. Gym glass was an ordeal. However, I have moved on and exorcised my demons from the past, as they were seriously affecting my adult life and hampering my efforts to move beyond the humiliation of my childhood and adolescence.

Peace, Jester.

Chad - I think one of the defining characteristics of a clique is that members either deny or are unaware that it exists. Check out my post about <a href="http://www.jestertunes.com/2007/02/14/its-valentines-day-again-charlie-brown/" rel="nofollow">Valentine's Day</a> for some history...

ginamonster - you don't have to tell me, but photos would be appreciated. I don't know any straight guys in San Diego, but I know a TON that play for my team. I think you have to go a bit further north and east to get to the straight guys, but I think they are all Republicans. I hear Missoula Montana is nice...

Oh, my dear Jester, I don't think I have to tell you, nor would you want me to tell you what I would do with a strait man.
And if it is true that strait guys do not survive here, well, that explains a lot. Most notably, the great difficulty I have finding decent men to date! and if that really is the case, I'm moving.
